Support Local!

Writer's picture: Nannette ErasmusNannette Erasmus

Ever since I can remember I have been a lover of food. One of my favourite activities is trying out a new restaurant or coffee shop. As we all know many businesses are currently suffering all around the world. I have always been big on supporting local but I believe that it is now more important than ever before. Below I have listed some of my favourite coffee shops, restaurants, and take-aways in Durban. What are some of your favourite spots in South Africa?

1. KZNSA Arts Cafe

KZNSA is a unique mixture of art and food. I love stopping by for a quick coffee or for one of their delicious breakfasts and to have a look at one of their new exhibitions. KZNSA is currently open from Tuesday to Sunday from 7:30am for on the go coffee and from 8:30am for dine-in.

Location: 166 Bulwer Rd, Glenwood

2. Heidi's Cafe

Heidi's is a little hidden gem on the Bluff. If you are looking for a good coffee, sarmie, or smoothie then this little beach cafe is the place for you. Heidi's is open Tuesday-Sunday from 7:00am to 12:00pm. There is currently limited seating available but you can get a takeaway and have it on the benches by the beach.

3. Surf Riders Cafe

Surf Riders is situated on the beachfront promenade with great views of the ocean and a great variety of food. After a long walk on the promenade or a swim in the ocean, I love to refuel at Surf Riders. Surf Riders is open Monday - Sunday from 6:30am - 6:00pm.

4. Mr. Chang's Kitchen

Mr Chang's is a Chinese takeaway on the Bluff. Some of my favourite memories are from when I was in high school and we would get sweet and sour pork for dinner. Mr Chang's is open for take-away's from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:30am to 7:00pm.
